It was really a great experience at Puducherry. It is in the India’s Union list. It really defines and also prove to some extent the existence of french culture in India. Till today also the city is untouched and in many parts still some french people are staying.

The best part of Pondicherry is Goubert Avenue. Its a beautiful road along the shore of Bay of Bengal. It is usually crowded in the Evening so if you want to enjoy the place then be here in the early hrs of morning.

The best way to move around in Pondy is by walking or you can hire a Bicycle. You can hire motorbike if you are going Repos Beach (8 km from city), Auroville (12 km from city). For Bike you will need to provide some identification document as collateral and an advance of Rs 500-1000. But for Bicycle it is only Rs 50. Mission Street is the place from where u will get the Bike and  Bicycle on hire.

Now the trip starts :

As you all must be knowing i am currently in Bengaluru. It is around 300 kms from Bangalore, which means 6-7 hrs by road and nearly 11 hrs by train. We prefer train because it was an overnight journey.

list of trains

For online booking u need to log in to Indian Railways Official Website.

We reached around 10 am , train was late by 3 hrs. As we get down we saw many tourist incl both Indian and foreigner. It was really exciting as it was a weekend and really crowded. Since we didn’t book the hotel , from there we took an auto and went straight to Aurobindo Ashram.

1) Aurobindo Ashram

It was a nice place and beautiful. U have to keep your shoes outside. I was really amazed, when I was about to give money to the lady in shoe counter and she told that no it is not required.

Aurobindo Ashram

As and when we enter it was like amazing, it was so silent inside that one can hear the heart pumping. Everybody was in deep silence. It was like ………this is it. A must visit place in Pondicherry.

2) Arulmigu Manakula Vinayagar Temple

Go straight from Ashram u will find the famous Ganesh Temple

Vinayagar Temple

Vinayagar Temple

Its a nice spot it’s worth going just to get up close and personal with the female elephant. Inside the temple there is a bejeweled statute of Lord Ganesha which is worth  queuing to see.  Here the exact opposite situation I found , the man at the shoe counter was himself asking for money. Really strange(thinking).

3) Le Cafe

The location of the cafe is beyond doubt- very nice , a splendid view of the sea with dozens of small fishing boats plying the waters. The menu is limited and the taste of the food also is also not that good but still I would say Its a must Visit Place in Pondicherry mainly because of its location.

It is run by govt;provide service for 24 hrs. Also the only cafe on the sea side.

4) Auroville

Auroville resorts on the outskirts of Pondy on the ECR road is the most favourite destination for all the Europeans. So from Le Cafe we hire an Auto for to and fro Auroville, he charged us 250 rupees. For details: Click here

Also known as Vandalur Zoo, is a Zoological Garden located in Vandalur, about 31 kms from City Center and 15 kms from Chennai Airport. You can easily reach by the Local Train. Vandalur is also one of the station. After getting down at the station just cross the road, only 2 kms from there so either one can walk or go by Auto/Bus anything. This was the place for which we are here in Chennai. It must be sounding weird that for the bloody Zoo we are here but believe me guys Its a must visit Place and its worth it. It is one of the biggest zoo I have went. For details: Click here

If you are planning on a weekend then it will be fun. Advise is to wear light clothes and carry a hat/cap and shades. A water bottle is must. Inside the zoo you will get cycles to move inside. A very nominal charge. Zoo authorities also run their battery operated Vehicle. It will take almost 5 hrs in Zoo. We really enjoyed a lot. Lot of animals are there. Its a must visit place.
