Backpacking trip around South Rajasthan was my dream and yes I have lived it. I expected to live in the dream destination but the real life was not that I dreamt. I presumed fun in Bikaner and Jodhpur and tasty food everywhere, but it was not. On the other hand, it was a surprise filled trip than the fun filled one. So let me open the Pandora’s Box.

1) Udaipur

Udaivilas Palace

This was the best thing that happened to be in Rajasthan. I really wanted to see this palace cum hotel. The hospitality was great and interiors & decors were amazing. It’s a must see if visit Udaipur. The uniqueness of this place is the view of the Lake Pichola. You can spend your entire evening by just gazing at the lake. It really fascinated me.

It was really hot when we reached Jaisalmer. My plans for Jaisalmer were totally different. I have never thought of doing this. It was all my mates plan. We enquired from our Guest House and were immediately off to Barna, the same day. I have never seen sand dunes, only read about it. But as we reached the place on Camels it was like a dream come true which I have never thought of. I was really happy. The whole set up was normal but still it was so special that I have no words to explain. We had our dinner and slept off.

3) Jodhpur

Rajasthan is known for its 3 forts : Mehrangarh, Chittorgarh and Amer fort. Now I have seen Mehrangarh, only the other two left. This Jodhpur Mehrangarh fort is due to Roa Jodha. The essence was to shift the capital to some safer place and this led to the birth of Mehrangarh. From here you can really get to know why Jodhpur is called the “The Blue City of India”. Today this magnificent Jodhpur fort is a living testimony that recounts the achievers and legends of Jodhpur’s rich history.

4) Bikaner

This is the best place in Bikaner to chill out. Since there were no cafes in Bikaner, this was the place where we spent most of our time, to protect our self from scorching heat. The owner and staff are really good. Also, you will find the great variety of Sharbath.

These are the highlights of the trip around south Rajasthan. The history and heritage of South Rajasthan, is actually more than what we read. One has to experience by living there. I had my fortune and the travelogue will follow, in detail. I can assure you that you can imagine being in South Rajasthan by reading my story and start planning your trip to the heritage.
