Public Transport in Singapore

public-transport

Singapore holds the best public transport in the Earth. MRT, Buses and Comfort taxis make up the public transport in Singapore. Besides these three modes Uber Taxis are also readily available.

MRT Timings and Frequency

  • Train operation hoursare from 5.30am to about midnight daily and are usually extended during festive periods.
  • The train frequencyduring peak hours of 7am to 9am is about 2 to 3 minutes and about 5 to 7 minutes during off-peak times.
  • Compensate for your ride with EZ Link Card or a standard slate.
  • Several maps are usable at all stations to assist you find your path round the stations.

Buses

Buses are readily available from all designated bus stands. First time in Asia I saw fully automatic bus stands. The display is same as we see in Airports for flights. It will show the timing of all upcoming buses and on that same timing all buses will arrive at the stand. The best part is that same ticket is applicable for both Buses and MRT. Then you simply have to Tap and move.

Comfort Taxis

This is the cheapest taxis you can get in Singapore. Yes, it is cheaper than Uber. Either you can board a running cab, or you can book a cab through call center or through mobile app.

How well MRT is connected to the City

When I reached Singapore I was searching for MRT. After 20 mins I got to know that you have to go out, take right and walk straight. You will see the Escalator and then later on reaching up take another right and you will find out the MRT Ticket Counter. This is the Changi Airport station.

MRT is connected to each and every place in Singapore you want to proceed. And since Singapore is very small, so I have preferred to walk down in order to know the place well.

For Backpackers: STP (Singapore Tourist Pass) or EZ Link Card

This was the biggest confusion I had when I was planning for my trip. I didn’t find any suitable info which one is a more dependable choice. Even google also failed to do. So I finally let it go.

As soon as I reached Changi, I inquired and got to know that EZ Card is anytime better than STP. The primary difference is EZ Link Card doesn’t have any validity and STP come with a validity of 2 and 3 days. Likewise, balance left on STP is non-refundable whereas in EZ link card is completely refundable. With the EZ link card you can board all types of Public Transport whereas with STP you cannot board all, it occurs with some limitations. There are some special buses running in Singapore which you cannot breed with STP.

Any questions, please comment on the post and I will be happy to help you.
