One Day trip to Mysore
by
I have been to MYSORE several times but this time the Occasion was different. The Navarathri Started – Famous Festival, Celebrated with great Enthusiasm in Mysore. The whole city is decorated like a Bride. Each and Every lane will be lighted for continuous 9 days. People from all the parts of India come specially to see, how the Dusshera is celebrated. Very much Crowded. Best time to Visit
Its very near to Bangalore- 150 Kms. We started at 8 AM. The weather was awesome. Since it was a Sunday the road was also clear, very less traffic. We reached Ramanagara around 9.15 AM. It is called the ‘City of Silks’. The famous Film ‘Sholay’ was depicted here only.
Now we are heading towards our 1st Destination-Srirangapatna. Mysore is 19 km from here. Places to see- Dariya Daulat Bagh, Tipu’s Gumbaj , Ranganatha Temple and Tipu’s Jail
As u reached Sriringapatna , just take a right turn you will get first Dariya Daulat Bagh and then Gumbaj.
1) Dariya Daulat Bagh
Also known as Summer palace of Tipu Sultan. A beautiful Garden with splendid flowers. At the end of the garden Palace is there. It has a collection of Tipu memorabilia, European Painting and Persian Manuscripts.
We reached here at 11 am. The entrance fee is a nominal amount so no need to worry about it. There is nothing to see inside . So as per my suggestion u can skip the place and save ur time.
2) Tipu’s Gumbaj
It was built by Tipu in memory of his father Hyder Ali. Here u will find the amazing art on the wall of the Gumbaz, hand made art. Now it has been covered with a glass to preserve the master piece.
Also if you look at the pillar, the black color one. It is the black marble which has been imported, still has the same glaze.
Please hire a guide to know about the story behind this fascinating monument. It s a must visit place.
From Gumbaj take a u turn and come to the main road and go straight on the opposite side of the Gumbaj. U will find this Temple.
It is the most famous attraction for Tourist. It is nothing but the the Leaning statue of Vishnu. The town has derive its name from this temple only.
4) Tipu’s Jail
It is near to the Temple. Both to be visited at the same time.
This also has an amazing story. Here also u will get a guide. Now its 1 pm so we thought to move because still 19 kms to go.
Finally we reached Mysore at 1 pm. The Roads were quiet crowded it was looking like some festive season . Yeh it was Navrathri Celebration.
Places to See : St. Philomena Church, Mysore Zoo, Chamundi Hills and Mysore Palace
Anybody remember this famous church?…………………………….I know, lets finish the suspense i will tell u. This is the church where the famous Blockbuster ‘ Amar Akbar Anthony ‘ was shoot. The Church is the real master piece. I haven’t seen such huge church before. Its a Must Visit Place.
2) Mysore Zoo (Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens)
Its a must visit place. One of my favourite destination in Mysore.
Now the time was 1.30 pm , still many more to do but very less time. So without wasting any time we went straight to Zoo. As usual it was very much crowded.
Lots of animals are there. It is 3.4 km long stretch. And in each and every meters u will get amazed to see……..a whole bunch of animals. It is very clean also as compared to others.
The above are the main ones, there are many others……m sure u guys will love it. Now we were very much tired and need to eat some good food ,it was 3.30 pm .
From there we went straight to Gayathri Tiffin Room ( Popularly known as GTR ).Its a must visit place for Eating. The must eat : Mysore Masala Dosa and Mysore Bhonda.
Here timing is very important. We went at 4 pm , so we get to eat only limited stuff. So my advice is to visit in the morning or after 5 pm in the Evening. The taste is the awesome and it is the best in Mysore. It is located in Chamundipuram, Mysore. Ph no : 0821-2332170. Just ask anybody the route.
Now it was 4.30 pm. So we now decided to go to Kengri Lake
3) Kengri Lake
It took us 10 mins from GTR to reach here. It was an awesome park kind of place but it wasn’t my cup of tea. I went there only for Boating , I love to do that and heared a lot about it. Here are some of the shots:
It was 20 mins Boat ride and it was awesome. We left around 5 pm . Now from there we went straight to Chamundi Hills.
It was like awesome view when we start up on the mountain. Road was very narrrow but two vehicles can easily pass simultaneously.
It took us almost 20 mins to reach on the mountains. As and when we reached it was like a plain. It was almost like a small town. Very much crowded. But the welcome was Awesome.
The above image is of the demon Mahishasura. The story is that – He was the King of the area, presently called Mysore was killed by the Goddess Chamundeshwari after a fierce battle. That is why the hills are name after the Goddess and the temple honors her in the hills.
It was awesome feeling on the mountain. Around 6.30 pm we left this place. Now the next destination was Mysore Palace. I have heard a lot about the lighting of it, but is the time to witness the beauty of it. As we are going down , my heart beat was getting faster because excitement level was increasing. As we reached down , the place was looking completely different at night. Every lane that leads to palace was fully lighted. It was looking very beautiful. Around 6.50 pm we reached Palace and looking for parking. We came palace to see the lighting. We didn’t find any so i told driver that we are going and u park the car.
As we entered the place we saw something different what we have expected. Now palace was fully lightened. It was looking awesome. I was ready for a click. Very much crowded, large Q. No entry fees was there.
One can witness the crowd from the above clicks. Jaise taise we enter the place and what i saw is beyond my expectation and i have never saw something. It was non other than Palace.
It was awesome………….no words to explain the beauty. We sat there for almost 1 hr. We left the place around 8 pm.
Now we were completely exhausted. But how can we forgot to eat Mysore Pak , the famous sweet emerged out of Mysore. So from there we took the auto and went straight to Bombay Tiffany, the place you cannot miss to eat from. It is on Sayyaji Road, Mysore. It is near to palace only. It s a must visit place in Mysore.
Then around 9 pm we left the place and now its time to say goodbye to the place of Majestic. It was a wonderful one day experience- Majestic Mysore
I would say it s a must visit place………………….
