How to travel in Myanmar from one place to other

The biggest concern we face when we plan to visit a new place is- How to travel from one place to another. So let’s talk about it.

From one city to another City

You can take flights, buses or trains.

Train- doesn’t go everywhere and it’s very slow as well. The most important is you can book your tickets only three days in advance and not before that. So it won’t serve the purpose.

Flights- are the most convenient but expensive one. You can easily catch a flight from Yangon to Inle or Yangon to Bagan or Yangon to Mandalay or anywhere you would like to go. In the last 3-4 years flights have increased and now there are many carriers so it’s not a problem.

Buses- are the most convenient, inexpensive and reliable mode of transport to travel from one place to another place. But it takes a lot of time if you planned to travel by bus.

When I was planning my trip to Myanmar, it was so difficult to plan my intercity travel from one place to another. Even though I used some online companies to buy train and bus tickets but due to high season all were fully booked. Then I thought let’s go to Yangon and will decide on the spot how to travel from one place to another.

Following are the pointers to travel by bus-

• Do your booking through some travel companies if you want to plan your trip in advance.
• If you are looking for a comfortable option then book your tickets in a VIP bus
• There are no sleeper buses in Myanmar

How to travel inside the City

In Yangon, you can travel easily by Grab. It’s readily available and cheap at the same time.

In Bagan, Tuk Tuk is the best option or hire E-bike.

In Mandalay, you can book cab or Tuk Tuk via Grab.

What is VIP BUS and How it differs from Normal Bus

VIP Bus is the best bus I have seen till date. The seats are so big and so comfortable. It has reclining seats which can recline up to 75%.  2+1 Seat Layout in all the VIP Buses. They may or may not have toilets inside the bus however the bus will make toilet stops on the way. Also, in most VIP Buses you will have Bus Attendants.

The following will be provided:

• Bottle of Water
• Soft drinks and snacks
• Blankets
• Personal TV
• Charging socket

Let’s see how it is better than normal buses:

• VIP bus is like flying business class
• It has 2+1 seat layout whereas normal buses have 2+2 seat layout
• In terms of Comfort VIP buses are far better than Normal buses
• VIP Buses are expensive than normal buses. But you should check the price for both before booking the tickets
• You won’t get bus attendants on normal buses
• You have your own TV Monitor
