Missed International Flight

Did you? How you missed your flight- You haven’t arrived at the Airport on time or you missed your dates or any other cause. Suppose you missed your flight and it was your last day in that particular country. Tomorrow your Visa is going to expire. So what you’re going to do? Never ever stay in a particular country till the last date of your Visa.

If we missed the domestic flight then there is no problem. But if it’s an International Flight then it’s a prop.

How I missed my International flight from Istanbul to Berlin (TGL)?

I reached Istanbul late night from Antalya. My flight was at 10 in the morning. So I was having ample of time to do anything. But I still missed my flight.

Check-in counter opened at 7.30am. I checked-in at that time. Also got my passport stamped by immigration officers. Now the time was 8am and I was sitting at my flight gate number. Still, I missed my flight.

Suddenly about 9 am, I saw that the flight is delayed by 1 hour and it was showing ETD is 11am (without any announcement). I became loosened up and gave way to Starbucks to sip a coffee and my favourite Blueberry Cheesecake. Suddenly, after some time I saw at the Arrival/Departure Board, it was demonstrating that the gate is shut. Time is 10.15 am. I was concerned and thought that there might be some trouble. And then I asked Turkish Airline staff about the status of the flight and she ordered the gate is closed, Sorry now we cannot do anything. I called for them and try to convince them, but nothing materialized. I was having no clue what to do.

Then suddenly the manager came and I showed him the ticket. He asked for the passport and told me to follow. At the immigration counter, he told me to wait and proceeded out. After 15 mins he came and gave my passport. I asked him, what should I do? He said –“You have to buy another ticket” and he went. I was totally stuck on what to do.

The following questions popped up in my head:

1) What about my baggage?

2) I already got my visa stamped now what to do?

But I was little relaxed on the Visa side because I was having a visa of 30 days and it’s been only 15 days in Turkey.

The first thing I did- Went to Turkish Airline Office at the Airport and tell them about the situation. They told me- “Your luggage is here only”. I was a bit relaxed at that time. Then I went and collect the Luggage. Right away the 2nd and the most important: Exit stamp in Passport. I asked airport authority and they ordered me to go to Airport Police Office. Police told me that your Visa is still valid and we will strike down your departure from Turkey. I was feeling happy, now the situation is under restraint. The next thing I did was- cancelled my Hostel booking in Berlin for that day and booked the ticket for tomorrow in Onur Air. I was sad and happy. I was glad because everything got sorted out. And sad because I was left with just two nights in Berlin.

I have never missed any flight or train in my full lifetime. This was the first time- International flight in International Country. So I’m happy to share the experience.
